Student Voices from MESA

Looking for a high school where creativity is part of the learning, not an add-on? At Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts (MESA), students explore academics through art, collaboration, and real-world projects.

As a 9–12 college-preparatory Expeditionary Learning school, MESA emphasizes strong relationships, character, and student voice. Through Crew, service learning, and public presentations, students build confidence and a strong sense of community. MESA also offers a Digital Media and Communication CTE pathway and arts electives like graphic design, painting, drawing, and pottery, giving students space to create and grow.

Kicking off high school… on the ropes!

Incoming freshmen at Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts (MESA) traveled to Denver Genesee Experiential, an outdoor adventure and team-building program in Genesee Mountain Park.

This first week tradition helps MESA launch the year with energy, laughter, and a strong sense of community. Alongside upperclassmen from MESA’s Link Leaders program, freshmen spent the day playing games, solving challenges, and tackling the ropes course, all designed to stretch their comfort zones, spark new friendships, and inspire teamwork.

Students came away with much more than a fun day in the mountains. They built trust, embraced new challenges, and discovered that high school is even better when you work together. Now they are bringing that spirit of belonging back to MESA to fuel the year ahead!

Welcome back, MESA!

MESA Murals

Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts (MESA) has introduced a Mural Art class, offering high-level painters in grades 10-12 the opportunity to create large-scale works of art for their school.

As a Painting 4 course, this class challenges students to not only refine their technical skills but also develop leadership abilities and a deeper understanding of the role of an artist in the community.
