Welcome to MESA!

Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts (MESA) is an 9 -12th grade college preparatory school. As a member of the EL Network (formerly Expeditionary Learning), students at MESA are active learners who are challenged to take on meaningful, public and collaborative work. Service-learning, fieldwork, and character development are built into MESA’s curriculum. Students investigate real-world issues and use what they learn to make a positive change in their community.

MESA students working with EL Educators

Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts (MESA) students showcased their excellence at the 2023 EL Education National Conference, in Denver, a couple weeks ago. Fourteen MESA students served as ambassadors, supporting the event in several ways, from escorting participants to introducing Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, MESA's founding director, before he spoke on a panel. In doing so, they gained confidence and leadership experience, and a couple conquered their fear of public speaking.

Geologic Adventure at Colorado School of Mines!

More than 100 Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts freshmen in Earth Science class embarked on a geologic adventure at the Colorado School of Mines. The experience brought to life what they were learning in the classroom about topography (the study of an area’s physical features), where they covered tectonic plate movement and the ancient supercontinent Pangea.
